Delays In Surveillance Test Results
November 20, 2020
We are writing to advise you that the average turnaround times for processing surveillance tests are currently longer than normal. You should expect turnaround times of 36-48 hours temporarily through the weekend and possibly into Monday. This estimate is based on when the test sample is received by the lab, not the time you take the test. Tests are being processed as quickly as possible in the order they are received.
Once the backlog is cleared, we anticipate turnaround times will return to the ~15-hour range we are all used to.
If you are planning to leave campus and finish the semester remotely, we urge you to wait for your test result to be reported before your departure, if possible. All travelers should follow public health guidance for reducing the risk of transmission during travel. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker is requiring students who leave campus for the holidays to first receive a negative COVID-19 test administered by the college within 72 hours of their planned departure. See the state's new higher education travel guidance. Please also see the university’s policy on Thanksgiving travel for AS&E students.
Our COVID emails are also experiencing a higher than usual volume, so you may not receive a response right away. Please know that we are responding to your emailed questions as quickly as possible.
We know that this has been frustrating for many of you as you await your test results, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
